The groundwater plan remains under review of the state \ngovernment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the reports, Queensland environment \nofficials met with Adani officials on Thursday and said that the finch \nmanagement plan could not be approved in its current form because \u201cit \nfails to meet Adani\u2019s environmental authority\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \nblack-throated finch bird population at the site represents the largest \nknown population of the endangered southern species, an environment \nspokesperson said.\u201cAlthough we believe the current version of the \nblack-throated finch management plan already meets our project \nconditions, we are not going to be pig-headed about it and we will \nreview the feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDepartment officials that are presiding \nover this have been reviewing those plans throughout 18 months, so to \nnow get to the 11th hour and have them provide some additional \nrequirements they believe are required have left us scratching our heads\n a little,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adani, which already has mining and \nenvironmental licences from the state government, requires the state \napprovals on management plans on the endangered finch bird and \ngroundwater in order to commence the mine construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \ncompany was given the green light by the federal government for its \ngroundwater plan last month before the Morrison Government announced \nelection dates.The project has passed several legal challenges in court \nsince 2010 and is seen as a most scrutinised coal project in the \ncountry.Gautam Adani-led Adani Group entered Australia in 2010 with the \npurchase of the greenfield Carmichael coal mine in the Galilee Basin in \ncentral Queensland, and the Abbot Point port near Bowen in the north.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n massive coal mine in Queensland state has been a controversial topic, \nwith the project expected to produce 2.3 billion tonnes of low-quality \ncoal.\n\n<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Australia\u2019s Queensland state government has rejected a plan of Indian energy giant Adani to protect the endangered black-throated finch bird population, saying the company\u2019s proposals do not meet the approval conditions for the proposed billion dollar mine project.
