In a rare outburst against the cricket board, Sachin Tendulkar has denied he is in a conflict of interest in his dual role as member of the Cricket Advisory Committee and a Mumbai Indians \u201cIcon\u201d, instead blaming the BCCI for the situation as it had empaneled him when he already held the position in the IPL franchise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Board has classified \nTendulkar\u2019s alleged conflict of interest in the \u201ctractable\u201d category, \nwhich can be resolved through recusal or full disclosure by the \nindividual concerned. BCCI ethics officer cum ombudsman DK Jain has \nserved notices to all three members of the CAC Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and\n Sourav Ganguly as they are involved with three different IPL \nfranchises, and all of them have denied the charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his \n13-point response to Jain, Tendulkar has requested him to call Committee\n of Administrators chief Vinod Rai and CEO Rahul Johri to \u201cclarify their\n position\u201d as he claimed it was the BCCI itself that had put him in the \nCAC, after he became a Mumbai Indians icon, and is now sitting in \njudgement over him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The most prolific run-scorer in the history \nof international cricket has called out the board for its role in the \nimbroglio. \u201cWithout prejudice to the aforesaid, the Noticee submits that\n it is surprising that the BCCI, being the very authority responsible \nfor the Noticee\u2019s empanelment to the Cricket Advisory Committee, is \npresently taking a position that the Noticee is exposed to an alleged \nconflict of interest. It is reiterated that, the Noticee was declared as\n the Mumbai Indians \u2018ICON\u2019 post his retirement in 2013, which was much \nprior to his appointment to the CAC in 2015,\u201d Tendulkar has argued in \nhis response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Noticee has time and again sought \nclarification from the BCCI on the scope of his role in the CAC but has \nnot received a response from BCCI till date. BCCI is aware that the CAC \nmerely performs an advisory\/recommendatory role and therefore, the \nNoticee\u2019s role as a Mumbai Indians Icon (which in fact has always been \nin the public domain) cannot, in any practical way, conflict with his \ninvolvement in the CAC.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Noticee fails to understand how the\n BCCI can now maintain its current stand that he is in a position of \n\u2018tractable\u2019 conflict of interest. The BCCI Response does not clarify \nthis variance in its stance and the Noticee requests the Hon\u2019ble Ethics \nOfficer to call upon BCCI Officials, Mr. Rahul Johri and Mr. Vinod Rai \nto clarify this position.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tendulkar\u2019s son Arjun is making \nstrides through age-group cricket and the legend pointed out that he had\n recused himself from the recruitment process of the national under-19 \nselection committee, as a CAC member, as his son was considered a \nprospect at that level, to avoid any conflict-of-interest controversy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
