Prime Minister Narendra Modi should be shown the door as his five-year rule has been the \u201cmost traumatic and devastating\u201d for India\u2019s youths, farmers, traders and every democratic institution, his predecessor Manmohan Singh said today.

dismissed the notion that there was a wave in favour of Modi and asserted the people had made up their mind to vote out the government that \u201cdoes not believe in inclusive growth and is only worried about its political existence at the altar of disharmony\u201d.In one of his most fierce attacks on the Modi dispensation, Singh alleged the past five years only witnessed \u201cstench\u201d of corruption peaking to \u201cunimaginable proportions\u201d, adding demonetisation was perhaps the \u201cbiggest scam\u201d of independent India.
In a bid to counter the BJP\u2019s focus on nationalism and terrorism, he sought to question Modi\u2019s commitment. He said it was \u201cdistressing\u201d to note that Modi was \u201cfilming movies\u201d in the Jim Corbett National Park instead of chairing any meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security in the immediate aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.
The former PM also called Modi\u2019s Pakistan policy \u201cslipshod\u201d, which he said was marred by a series of \u201cflip-flops\u201d from going to Pakistan uninvited to inviting \u201crogue\u201d ISI to the Pathankot air base in connection with the probe into a terrorist attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Singh, known as the architect of India\u2019s \neconomic reforms in 1990s, felt the country was headed for a slowdown \nand he accused the Modi regime of leaving the country\u2019s economy in \u201cdire\n straits\u201d.He claimed the \u201cgross intelligence failure\u201d in Pulwama speaks \nvolumes about this government\u2019s preparedness to tackle terror.\u201cOur \nsocio-political ambience has lost cohesiveness. People are fed up with \nthe daily loud rhetoric of cosmetic change. There is a sense of deep \ndespair and disillusionment amongst the masses,\u201d Singh said.
