Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has appealed to the international community to lift travel warnings issued after the Easter Sunday attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a meeting with the diplomatic community in Colombo on\n Tuesday, the President said that tourists are returning to Sri Lanka \nand he urged the foreign missions to eliminate any hurdles preventing \nothers from also visiting the country. He said security in the country \nhas been strengthened and he has taken steps with the security forces to\n ensure the security of the tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Sirisena said \nthat he was confident that with the current operations and assistance \nof foreign expertise on intelligence, the threat of terrorism could be \ncurbed soon. India, United States, China, UK and Australia are among the\n countries which issued travel warnings after Easter attacks which \nkilled 257 people including 44 foreigners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sri Lanka\u2019s tourism \nboard earlier said tourist arrivals have gone down by 60 percent while \nhotel occupancy has dipped. India is the largest source market for Sri \nLanka, which received 2.3 million tourists from around the world in \n2018. Around 450,000 Indian tourists visited Sri Lanka last year and \ncountry has set up target of 3 million for this year. Tourism accounts \nfor about five per cent of Sri Lanka’s economy and the country earned \nabout 4.4 billion US dollars in 2018 from the tourism sector.\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
