The death toll rose to 11 on Thursday in the powerful suicide blast outside one of Pakistan’s oldest and most revered Sufi shrines in Lahore as another policeman succumbed to his injuries, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The \nattack, which occurred during the Muslim holy month of Ramazan, was \ncarried out by a teenage Taliban suicide bomber who blew himself up \noutside the densely-populated 11th century shrine on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\n powerful blast took place outside the Data Darbar shrine, the largest \nSufi shrine in South Asia, where the elite police personnel were \ndeployed for security.A CCTV footage showed that a teenage boy wearing \nblack ‘shalwar kameez’ and a suicide vest came closer to the vehicle of \nelite force and blew himself up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Punjab Inspector General Police \nArif Nawaz told reporters that it was a suicide attack and the target \nwas the vehicle of the elite force that was stationed outside the shrine\n of Sufi saint Ali Hajvari popularly known as Data Darbar.The blast \nshattered the windows in nearby vehicles and buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wednesday\n was the second day of Muslim holy month of Ramazan. The Data Darbar \narea is thickly populated and the shrine attracts thousands of visitors \nevery day. Prime Minister Imran Khan has condemned the attack and \ndirected the Punjab government to provide all assistance to the injured \nand families of victims. Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has ordered \nan inquiry.
