Dhruv Patel, who has interests in insurance, pharmacy and property, has become the first Indian-origin chairman of London\u2019s largest independent grant giver after his election to the City of London Corporation\u2019s key committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The corporation is the governing body of the City of \nLondon, the historic financial district spread over a square mile that \nis home to the Bank of England, stock exchange and a large number of \nglobal banks and insurance companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Patel, 35, who founded the \nCity Hindus Network, will lead the delivery of \u2018Bridging Divides\u2019, the \ncommittee\u2019s five-year funding programme, which will see \u00a3100 million \ndistributed to the capital\u2019s charity organisations to help Londoners \nmost in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Awarded an OBE in 2018 for voluntary service to the\n British Hindu community and to social cohesion, Patel said: \u201cIt is a \ngreat privilege to be in the leadership role of one of the UK\u2019s most \nimportant supporters of civil society\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Patel, an elected member \nof the corporation since 2013, was elected chairman of the City Bridge \nTrust Committee, replacing Alison Gowman. The committee is the funding \narm of the corporation\u2019s charity, Bridge House Estates, making grants of\n \u00a320 million a year to tackle disadvantaged communities across the \ncapital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
