US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo would make his maiden trip to Russia next week to meet his counterpart Sergei Lavrov and Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss bilateral relationship between the two countries and a wide range of other issues, including arms control, Iran, N Korea, Ukraine and Venezuela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pompeo\u2019s visit to Moscow \nand Sochi on May 13 and 14 comes days after US President Donald Trump \nspoke over phone with Putin for about an hour earlier this week over \nvarious matters, including Venezuela and a potential three-way nuclear \ndeal that includes China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAn issue high on the agenda for their \ndiscussions will be arms control. President Trump has made clear that he\n wants arms control agreements that reflect modern reality,\u201d a senior \nState Department official said on the condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese\n agreements must include a broader range of countries and account for a \nbroader range of weapon systems than our current bilateral treaties with\n Russia,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The official said the two sides \nwould have a full range of global issues to discuss, including Ukraine, \nVenezuela, Iran, Syria and North Korea along with challenges in \nbilateral relationship between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
