The Defence Research and Development Organisation conducted successful flight test of ABHYAS – High-speed Expendable Aerial Target drone, from Interim Test Range in Odisha\u2019s Chandipur on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe flight test was \ntracked by various RADARS and Electro Optic Systems and proved its \nperformance in fully autonomous way point navigation mode,\u201d the DRDO \nsaid in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ABHYAS is drone involving designed for \nautonomous flight with the help of an autopilot. \u201cThe configuration of \nABHYAS is designed on an in-line small gas turbine engine and uses \nindigenously developed MEMS based navigation system for its navigation \nand guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The performance of the system was as per \nsimulations carried out and demonstrated the capability of ABHYAS to \nmeet the mission requirement for a cost effective HEAT,\u201d DRDO said. The \nconcept of ABHYAS was proved and pre-project details were completed on \nJanuary 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first experimental launch was conducted in \n2012. The project was sanctioned with an initial funding of Rs 15 crore.\n The project picked up pace after three services floated a global tender\n for procurement of 225 HEAT drones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The design of the fuselage \nis based is based on Lakshya, a high speed target drone system developed\n by the Aeronautical Development Establishment of DRDO.\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
