The Supreme Court on Friday withdrew the interim protection to former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar from being arrested by CBI in the multi-crore chit fund scam cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A bench, headed by Justice \nIndira Banerjee, passed the order after hearing Kumar and other \nrespective parties in the case.”We vacated the interim stay of arrest to\n former top cop Rajeev Kumar in the case. He needs to take legal \nrecourse in seven days,” Justice Banerjee said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CBI accused \nKumar of tampering with chit fund scam evidence to shield powerful \npoliticians.Kumar was heading the Special Investigation Team that was \nprobing the Saradha Chit fund Scam and the Rose Valley Ponzi Scam. He \nwas summoned for questioning by the CBI on several occasions after some \ndocuments relating to the scams went missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A team of CBI \nofficers landed at Kumar\u2019s doorstep on February 3 to question him but \nwas stopped by the Kolkata Police from entering Kumar\u2019s bungalow, and \ndetained them at a Police Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CBI then approached the \nApex Court who asked Kumar to make himself available to the CBI and \nco-operate with the probe.
