\u201cWell,\n this trend was set long before I got into the industry, and I had to \ncomply because I was fresh off the boat. Later, with understanding of \nthe work ethics and legal knowledge, I realised that almost 90% of the \nactors, including me, sign one-sided contracts, favouring the production\n house,\u201d reveals the actor who is currently seen in the show Shakti \nAstitva Ke Ehsaas Ki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unhappy with this exploitation that still \nprevails, Rubina says, \u201cWorking for over 12 hours, 30 days a month and \nbeing paid after 90 days, and in many cases even more than that, isn\u2019t \nonly unethical but is against working laws.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And the real haggle \nstarted only after the show went off air. \u201cFor nine months, I pleaded \nfor my money, went to the actors association for help, but no one cared \nor helped apart from [making] big fancy promises. I had to sell off my \nhouse and property because I couldn\u2019t pay off my EMIs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
After \ncrying my heart out, the production house finally called me up for \nnegotiation,\u201d she narrates.When the actor tried making addendum to a few\n points in the contract, she either lost the show or was bluntly told by\n the makers that \u2018we don\u2019t change our rules for anyone and to work with \nus, you have to follow them\u2019. The lack of choices led Rubina to give in \nto their terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And when the negotiations finally started, the \nreasons given for the cut in her pay were bizarre, the actor shares. \n\u201cThey\u2019d say things like, \u2018We have uplinks on your name for the number of\n hours or you didn\u2019t shoot because of torn sari blouse, you fell sick, \nyou asked for a half day This just added to my agony because there was \nno truth in all that.\u201d
