As the curtains fell on the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign today, the Congress kept its post-result options open with party chief Rahul Gandhi banking on the support of regional players to stitch a wide anti-BJP alliance after May 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He played cautious when asked on party\u2019s \nprospects and post-result strategy. He did not get drawn into the number\n game on questions about BJP president Amit Shah\u2019s \u201cAbki baar 300 paar\u201d \nslogan. \u201cI will not prejudge what people will decide on May 23. People \nare the master and they will decide. We will talk on the basis of what \nthe people decide. I will not comment on what people will do on May 23,\u201d\n Gandhi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI respect the fact that the BSP and the SP fought \nthe UP elections on their own. I also told Priyanka and Jyotiraditya to \ntake forward the Congress ideology in UP. Ideologically speaking, \nMayawatiji, Akhilesh Yadavji, Mamata Banerjeeji and Chandrababu Naidu \nare on the same page as the Congress. I do not see them supporting the \nBJP,\u201d Gandhi said, indicating hopes of a possible anti-BJP coalition \nwith the support of regional parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further hinted that his \nmother and UPA chief Sonia Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh would \ncontinue to remain active in the party. \u201cSonia Gandhiji, Manmohan \nSinghji have huge experience. I am not Narendra Modi. I don\u2019t disregard \nexperience. We will use their experience in the party,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In\n a calculated move ahead of the last-phase polling, Gandhi refused to \ncriticise anti-Modi remarks by TMC chief Mamata Banerjee and Mayawati \nand said: \u201cLast I knew Mamataji and Mayawatiji were not in the Congress.\n Please put these questions to them.\u201d
