The\n Punjab today witnessed overall peaceful single phased poll to elect 13 \nrepresentatives for Parliament. Till the filing of news report 62.07 \nvoting percentage was recorded in Punjab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thanking the people of \nPunjab for coming out in large numbers to exercise their democratic \nright despite hot weather, Dr. S. Karuna Raju, Chief Electoral Officer \nPunjab said that by conducting themselves responsibly the people of \nPunjab have set an excellent example. He said that focus of ECI was to \nensure peaceful poll in a free and fair manner. He said that it was a \nmatter of great satisfaction that 117 all women polling stations also \nsaw large numbers of voters. Mr. Raju said that the main feature of this\n election was deputing of 9390 micro-observers in addition to 17 General\n Observers, 7 Police observers and 19 expenditure observers of ECI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\n said that in the morning during mock poll 290 ballot units, 219 control\n units and 508 VVPAT machines were replaced and 169 ballot units, 88 \ncontrol units and 695 VVPAT were replaced during the conduct of poll. He\n also said that there was not a single case of disruption of poll and \ninducement of voters that was brought to the notice of the Commission \nduring the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Raju thanked over 1.25 lack polling personnel\n more than 25,000 CAPF Security Personnel and 75,000 Punjab Police \nPersonnel for working day and night to ensure free, fair and peaceful \npoll in the State. He also thanked PWD coordinators, Volunteers of \nNCC\/NSS, Aanganwadi workers, Mid-Day-Meal workers and watchmen for \ncontributing in the election process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Giving details on law and \norder front, Dr. Raju said that an incident of firing has been reported \nfrom Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda where scuffle took place between \nsupporters of two rival groups. Besides, firing was reported in which \ntwo persons got injured. An FIR was registered in this case against 12 \npersons and 15 unknown persons. Similar incident occurred in village \nSarali Kalan of PS Verowal , District Tarn Taran where Bunty S\/o \nCharanjit Singh was killed by sharp edge weapon. This murder was \ncommitted by accused for personal enmity and has got no relation with \nLok Sabha Election. FIR has been lodged against Sukha, Gora and Soni S\/o\n Randhir Singh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further said that in Adampur (District \nJalandhar) a minor verbal dispute arose between supporters of SAD and \nCongress Party. The administration diffused the situation.Dr. Raju said\n that 3 cases have been registered for posting videos\/photographs while \nvoting. The cases have been registered in Gurdaspur, Ludhiana and \nRupnagar District under various sections of Law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In another case \nof violation of model code of conduct, Mohan Fiber Company has been \nsealed for not observing holiday under Negotiable Instrument Act 1881 \nannounced by ECI.
