He was 90.During Goa\u2019s liberation movement,  Ranade was active in attacking police stations at Betim, Banastarim and  other outposts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was arrested by Portuguese police in 1955 and\n was imprisoned at the Fort of Caxias near Lisbon in Portugal. He was \nkept in solitary confinement for six years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ranade was released \nfrom prison in January 1969, after the liberation of Goa in 1961, having\n served 14 years. Mohan Ranade was awarded Padmashri in 2001 and Sangli \nBhushan in 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He received the Goa Puraskar in 1986 for social \nwork. He authored books on the Goa liberation movement.Goa Chief \nMinister Pramod Sawant has condoled Mohan Ranade\u2019s death.
