US President Donald Trump on Sunday said migrant detention centres that had come under criticism for overcrowding and poor conditions would be opened to visits by journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m going to start showing some of these detention centres to the press. I want the press to go in and see them,\u201d Trump told reporters in Morristown, New Jersey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOne girl seemed likely enough to try to kill herself that the agents made her sleep on a cot in front of them, so they could watch her as they were processing new arrivals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The article echoed a Department of Homeland Security watchdog report released last week warning of \u201cdangerous overcrowding\u201d in multiple detention facilities, which hold thousands of migrants seeking to remain in the United States, most of whom are fleeing violence and poverty in their Central American homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
