\nTrade, terror and regional security, including situation in Afghanistan and Korean Peninsula, dominated the 14th India European Union summit in Delhi today, underlined by additional joint statements on counter-terrorism, clean energy, climate change and urban partnership.<\/p>\n
In a first, the 28-member regional bloc agreed to name terrorists in an India-EU declaration and seek to \u201ccut flows of funds, and other financial assets and economic resources to individuals and entities involved in terrorism, including those proscribed under the relevant United Nations\u2019 Sanctions\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation to initiate decisive and concerted action against globally proscribed terrorists and terror entities, including Hafeez Saeed, Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, Dawood Ibrahim, Lashkar-e-Toiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, Haqqani Network, Al Qaida, ISIS (Da\u2019esh) and their affiliates,\u201d says the counter-terror joint statement.<\/p>\n
The statements were issued after Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, EU high representative Frederica Mogherini held delegation talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.<\/p>\n
In joint remarks after the meeting, Prime Minister Modi said, \u201cWe have agreed to strengthen our security cooperation and work together against terrorism. We will not only further strengthen our bilateral cooperation on this issue, but also increase our cooperation and coordination at multilateral fora.\u201d<\/p>\n
The two sides also exchanged three agreements, including one on solar alliance and a Finance Contract of Bangalore Metro Rail Project for Euro 300 million out of total loan of Euro 500 million.<\/p>\n
The struggle, however, continues to find a way forward for the free trade agreement that has been pending since 2007. Chief negotiators of both sides will meet on November 13 and 14 to figure a way out of the deep freeze.<\/p>\n
European Commission President Juncker told \u0007journalists, \u201cIndia EU FTA would be the best way \u0007forward. Negotiations are \u0007on.
