Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday welcomed Punjab\u2019s selection for the \u2018Krishi Karman Award 2017-18\u2019 as the best performing state in rice production, terming it a noteworthy accomplishment of the state\u2019s farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chief Minister described the selection as an endorsement of the caliber, resilience and hard work of the state\u2019s farming community, which had played a critical role in making India self-reliant in food production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The prestigious award, conferred by the central government, consists of a trophy, citation and a cash award of Rs 2 crore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A spokesperson of the Chief Minister\u2019s Office said that in its communiqu\u00e9, the Union Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare had informed that Punjab had been selected for Krishi Karman Award in Rice category for 2017-18. The Ministry also congratulated the state government for its dedicated efforts in extending technological inputs and services to the farmers that had resulted in this outstanding achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Union Ministry also asked the state government to select two rice cultivating farmers who have contributed the maximum towards the state food basket, based on their performance of productivity and their contribution as a progressive & innovative farmer, for PRASHASHTI PATRA with an amount of Rs 2 lacs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Secretary Agriculture, Punjab, KS Pannu disclosed that the area under paddy during Kharif, 2017 was 30.64 lac hectare, and a record production of 199.65 Lac Metric Tonns of rice (65.16 Quintal yield per hectare), which is 6 percent higher than previous year, (in Kharif 2016 was 189 LMTs) had been recorded in 2017-18.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
