Jasprit Bumrah, India\u2019s top pace bowler across formats for the last two years, has been ruled out of the three-Test series against South Africa due to a stress fracture in his lower back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bumrah has been replaced in the Indian squad by paceman Umesh Yadav. The Test series against South Africa begins in Visakhapatnam on October 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The injury could force Bumrah out of next month\u2019s T20I and Test series against Bangladesh as well. Since making his Test debut against South Africa in January 2018, Bumrah has picked up 62 wickets in 12 Tests at an average of 19.24. He is yet to play a Test series in India, but he did very well on the tours of South Africa, England, Australia and the West Indies over the last 21 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bumrah\u2019s injury is a big setback to India and a warning sign as well, because it raises questions asked about managing his workload in the light of his slingy, unconventional bowling action. Bumrah has bowled a staggering 724.3 overs in international cricket since January 1, 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe injury was detected during a routine radiological screening. He will now undergo rehabilitation at NCA and will be monitored by the BCCI Medical Team. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Umesh Yadav as Bumrah\u2019s replacement,\u201d the Indian cricket board said in a media statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
