{"id":73461,"date":"2019-10-31T11:46:42","date_gmt":"2019-10-31T11:46:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blastingskyhawk.com\/?p=73461"},"modified":"2019-10-31T11:46:44","modified_gmt":"2019-10-31T11:46:44","slug":"nitish-kumars-jd-u-for-proportionate-representation-in-modi-cabinet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blastingskyhawk.com\/english\/nitish-kumars-jd-u-for-proportionate-representation-in-modi-cabinet\/","title":{"rendered":"Nitish Kumar\u2019s JD (U) for \u2018proportionate representation\u2019 in Modi Cabinet"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>BJP ally JD(U), which had refused to join the Modi government in June, on Wednesday pushed for a \u201cproportionate representation\u201d for the party in the Union Cabinet, saying if Prime Minister Narendra Modi or BJP president Amit Shah takes an initiative to this effect, it will welcome the move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Briefing reporters on Kumar\u2019s speech and other issues, JD (U) general secretary KC Tyagi noted that the mandate of the 2015 Bihar Assembly poll was \u201cagainst\u201d the BJP but Kumar conceded to it the post of deputy chief minister besides sharing ministerial berths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The assertive stand of the JD (U), which had not joined the Modi government as it was offered only one berth, comes at a time when another BJP ally Shiv Sena is demanding equal division of power in Maharashtra after its bigger partner\u2019s below-par performance in the recent assembly poll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shortly after Nitish Kumar addressed his party\u2019s national council following his reelection as party president for a fresh three-year term, the JD (U) reminded the BJP that the Bihar chief minister has given the saffron party a proportionate representation in the state government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf NDA leaders Modi and Shah take an initiative for the JD (U)\u2019s proportionate representation in the government, we will welcome it,\u201d Tyagi said, noting that his party is the biggest NDA constituent in Bihar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Underscoring his party\u2019s long-held demand, Tyagi noted that the JD (U) was not inducted in the first Modi government as well, even though it had broken its ties with Lalu Prasad-led RJD and the Congress in 2017 and joined hands with the BJP in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the opposition grand alliance in Bihar, Kumar had inflicted a heavy defeat on the BJP-led NDA in 2015 but joined it later following his differences with the RJD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the recent Lok Sabha election, BJP and JD (U) had won 17 and 16 seats respectively in the state followed by six of the Ram Vilas Paswan-led LJP.Tyagi, however, added his party was imposing no condition on the BJP over the issue of cabinet berths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his speech, Kumar batted for nation-wide prohibition, spoke at length about his government\u2019s pro-women measures and rejected criticism over law and order issues in Bihar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also pitched for value-based politics, saying Mahatma Gandhi\u2019s concept of \u2018seven social sins\u2019 should be part of political campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tyagi also asserted that there is no \u201cconfusion\u201d in his party\u2019s alliance with the BJP after Shah\u2019s recent statement that the NDA will fight the 2020 assembly polls in Bihar under Kumar\u2019s leadership.\u201cWe will do even better than the 2010 poll results,\u201d he said.
