Brazil\u2019s left-wing leader Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva urged his followers to continue \u201cthe fight\u201d on Sunday evening at his first major rally since his release from prison a week ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe fight isn\u2019t over,\u201d the former president chanted to several tens of thousands of cheering supporters in the northeastern city of Recife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAfter seeing so many people mobilise across the country, I want to say: \u2018The fight is not over.\u2019 The fight cannot end because we still want more,\u201d Lula said, referring to the thousands of left-wing activists who mobilized across Brazil during his 580-day incarceration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe \u2018Free Lula\u2019 campaign must become something even bigger!\u201d he added, as the crowd welcomed him with cries of \u201cLula, warrior for the Brazilian people!\u201d Lula, who held presidential office from 2003-2010, was arrested in April 2018 for corruption, though he said he was innocent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 74-year-old was released on November 8 in a politically sensitive Supreme Court ruling that could free thousands of convicts.On Sunday, he returned to Recife, the capital of his home state Pernambuco, to take part in a music festival organised in his honour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
