\nPresident Donald Trump is \u201ccreating an international crisis\u201d with his \u201cdangerous\u201d decision to decertify the Iran nuclear deal, John Kerry, the former Secretary of State who negotiated the agreement, said on Saturday.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt endangers America\u2019s national security interests and those of our closest allies,\u201d Kerry said of the move by Trump, who has long criticized the agreement, which is aimed at curbing Tehran\u2019s nuclear program.<\/p>\n
In a speech pocked with grievances dating to the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Trump railed against the \u201cIranian dictatorship, its sponsorship of terrorism, and its continuing aggression in the Middle East and all around the world.\u201d While he threatened to rip up the 2015 agreement, he stopped short of doing so for now, instead taking the procedural step of \u201cdecertifying\u201d it, leaving its fate in the hands of the Republican-controlled Congress.<\/p>\n
Kerry called on the legislature to stand in Trump\u2019s way, saying that \u201cthe stakes are enormous for Congress.\u201d \u201cThat means rejecting president\u2019s plan and the legislative maneuvers being contemplated that would unravel the agreement once and for all,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
