{"id":77218,"date":"2019-12-28T11:45:47","date_gmt":"2019-12-28T11:45:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blastingskyhawk.com\/?p=77218"},"modified":"2019-12-28T11:45:49","modified_gmt":"2019-12-28T11:45:49","slug":"rajnath-singh-cancels-visit-to-chennais-private-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blastingskyhawk.com\/english\/rajnath-singh-cancels-visit-to-chennais-private-university\/","title":{"rendered":"Rajnath Singh cancels visit to Chennai\u2019s private university"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has cancelled his participation in a convocation ceremony at a private university here on Saturday, after \u2018pro-Hindu\u2019 outfits objected to the university\u2019s decision to confer honorary doctorate on noted Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to BJP spokesperson S G Suryah, Singh has \u201ccancelled\u201d his visit, \u201chonouring the sentiments of Tamils &amp; Tamil Nadu.\u201d Sources in the airport also said the Defence Minister has cancelled his visit to the city.The private university, however, could not be reached for a comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Thursday, a controversy erupted over the varsity\u2019s decision to confer an honorary doctorate on Vairamuthu at the convocation ceremony on Saturday, which was scheduled to be attended by Singh.Two Hindu outfits opposed the move and announced black flag protests outside the University at suburban Kattankulathur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hindu Makkal Katchi and the Hindu Munnani announced the protest, with the latter saying it would stage the demo against Singh also.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hindu Munnani alleged Vairamuthu had earlier made some controversial remarks about woman Vaishnavite saint Andal, following which protests had erupted against the national award-winning lyricist<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has cancelled his participation in a convocation ceremony at a private university here on Saturday, after \u2018pro-Hindu\u2019 outfits objected to the university\u2019s decision to confer honorary doctorate on noted Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu.
