{"id":81358,"date":"2020-03-11T11:13:32","date_gmt":"2020-03-11T11:13:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blastingskyhawk.com\/?p=81358"},"modified":"2020-03-11T11:13:33","modified_gmt":"2020-03-11T11:13:33","slug":"sudan-pm-says-he-survived-terror-attack-in-khartoum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blastingskyhawk.com\/english\/sudan-pm-says-he-survived-terror-attack-in-khartoum\/","title":{"rendered":"Sudan PM says he survived \u2018terror attack\u2019 in Khartoum"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sudan\u2019s prime minister said Monday he survived a \u201cterror attack\u201d after an explosion and gunfire targeted his motorcade in the capital Khartoum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hamdok also tweeted a photo of himself smiling and seated at a large desk, while a TV behind him showed news coverage reporting he\u2019d survived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The attack highlighted the fragility of Sudan\u2019s transition to civilian rule, almost a year after pro-democracy protesters forced the military to remove autocratic President Omar al-Bashir from power and replace him with a joint military-civilian government, which has promised to hold elections in three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hamdok, in his brief statement on Twitter, said, \u201cRest assured that what happened today will not stand in the way of our transition, instead it is an additional push to the wheel of change in Sudan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A statement from the prime minister\u2019s office said the attackers used explosives and firearms, and that a security officer was lightly wounded. The statement was read by Faisal Saleh, Sudan\u2019s information minister and interim government spokesman. He said the convoy was hit near the Kober Bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Footage posted online showed two white, Japanese-made SUVs typically used by Sudan\u2019s top officials parked on a street, damaged with its widows broken. Another vehicle was badly damaged in the blast. Several dozen people were seen at the site of the attack, chanting: \u201cWith our blood and soul, we redeem you, Hamdok.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The protest movement that led the uprising against al-Bashir called the blast a \u201cterrorist attack.\u201d The statement by the Forces for the Declaration of Freedom and Change called on people to take to the streets to \u201cshow our unity and cohesion \u2026 and protect the transitional authority.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Youth activists face arrest and intimidation and are still reeling from a ferocious crackdown by security forces last summer that broke up their sit-in outside the military\u2019s headquarters and killed dozens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>U.N. spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said U.N chief Antonio Guterres was \u201cshocked and saddened\u201d to learn of the attack and expressed \u201cfull solidarity\u201d with the prime minister and people of Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Irfan Siddiq, the British ambassador in Khartoum, said the blast \u201cis a deeply worrying event must be investigated fully.\u201d He tweeted that the Sudanese prime minister\u2019s office had confirmed Hamdok and his team \u201care all fine, with no injuries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hamdok met Monday with Egypt\u2019s intelligence chief, Abbas Kamel, who was visiting Sudan. Kamel also met with Gen. Abdel Fattah Burhan, head of the joint military-civilian sovereign council.
