\nPakistan today said its High Commissioner Sohail Mahmood met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, but dismissed as \u201cspeculative\u201d the reports in media that the two discussed the issue of Kulbhushan Jadhav.<\/p>\n
The foreign office issued a statement after reports in media claimed that Swaraj asked Mahmood to drop all charges against Jadhav and send him back for any progress in bilateral ties.<\/p>\n
Jadhav, 46, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court in April for his alleged involvement in espionage and terrorist activities. The International Court of Justice in May halted his execution on India\u2019s appeal.<\/p>\n
Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakaria today confirmed that Mahmood met Swaraj on October 17 \u0007but asserted that it was a routine meeting by the diplomat who recently assumed office as Pakistan\u2019s new High Commissioner to India.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile broad contours of bilateral relations were deliberated upon during this interaction, no specific case came under discussion. Therefore, the reports appearing in the Indian media are speculative,\u201d Zakaria said. He also \u0007said the meeting was held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere.<\/p>\n
