\nNormal life was paralysed across the Kashmir valley in response to the bandh call given by separatists to protest the deployment of the Indian Army here on this day in 1947. The authorities, on the other hand, imposed restrictions in downtown Srinagar to prevent any demonstrations today.<\/p>\n
The authorities imposed restrictions from early morning in the areas falling under seven police stations of the downtown area to prevent any law and order situation or clash between protesters and police forces. The restrictions were imposed in areas under Nowhatta, MR Gunj, Safa Kadal, Rainawari, Khanyar, Kralkhud and Maisuma. No Friday congregational prayers were held in the Jamia Masjid (main mosque) due to the restrictions in the Nowhatta area.<\/p>\n
The separatist organisations led by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik had jointly called for the protest bandh and to observe the day as \u201cblack day\u201d. To prevent any untoward incident in downtown areas, heavy deployment of police and CRPF men was made and most of the roads were sealed by concertina wires. Police personnel maintained a strict vigil in these areas while there were reports of protest demonstrations at Soura on the outskirts of the city after Friday prayers.<\/p>\n
All the shops and business establishments were closed and passenger transport was off the roads in major towns and on inter-district routes.<\/p>\n
There was a thin attendance in government offices while the educational institutions also remained closed. The railway service between Baramulla in North Kashmir and Banihal in the Jammu region that cuts through the Kashmir valley was also suspended in view of the strike call.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
