PUNJAB GOVT TO LAUNCH NEW SCHEME TO ENSURE SOCIAL WELFARE BENEFITS REACH RURAL POOR

Chandigarh, September 20

To ensure that the benefits of its various welfare programmes reach the rural poor, the Punjab government has decided to launch a new scheme – the Mahatma Gandhi Sarbat Vikas Yojna (MGSVY) – in line with the Antyodaya principles.

Aimed at inclusive development and ensuring equitable access to benefits of all socio-economic development schemes to the most deserving, the scheme will be implemented in the state’s rural areas, where it will identify the poor and distressed households which have been deprived of the benefits of the various welfare schemes.

By adhering to Antyodaya, the scheme aims to achieve the objectives of holistic development of all sections of the society, and ensuring social justice and equality by improving the standard of living and quality of life in rural area. The scheme also focuses on encouraging voluntary organizations, various civil society organizations, NRIs and other socially committed persons to contribute to the welfare of the downtrodden.
