Two militants were killed in a gunfight in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, police said.The gunfight raged when security forces were carrying out a cordon and search operation in Zagoo area of Khansahib after an input about the presence of militants.

“During search operation, the hiding militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, two militants were neutralised,” a police spokesman said, adding that their identity was being ascertained.

He said incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from the site of encounter.Police have registered a case and initiated investigation. An appeal has been made to the people not to venture inside the encounter zone.
