2 women awarded for catching chain snatcher

Faridabad
Two women were today awarded Rs 50,000 each for bravery and prompt action in catching a chain snatcher in July. NIT area DCP Astha Modi handed over the amount on behalf of the DGP at her office.

“We confronted a chain snatcher seconds after he snatched the gold chain of a neighbour around 11 am on July 25. We did not let him go till others came to our help and he was handed over to the police,” said Madhulika (33), a private tutor in Greenfields Colony.

She said the snatcher, aged around 22 years, tried to run away, but she and her neighbour Kamlesh (48), a housewife, stood in the way. They caught hold of him when they heard screams of the victim residing nearby that someone had snatched her chain.

“The accused perhaps had no weapon and could not free himself,” she said. It was a major relief that he could not hurt them, she said. After the incident got reported in the local media, Commissioner of Police Hanif Qureshi had honoured them with a commendation certificate in August, she added.
