40 RECEIVE DEGREES AT PAU COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE CONVOCATION

The 16th Convocation of the College of Agriculture, PAU was organized here at Pal Auditorium. Shri Suresh Kumar, Principal secretary to the Chief minister was the Chief Guest at the event, while Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice Chancellor, PAU, presided over the function. Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Member, Board of Management, Dr S.S. Johal, Chancellor, Central University and Dr R.S. Sidhu, Registrar, PAU graced the occasion along with a large number of scientists from the university.
In his remarks, Shri Suresh Kumar congratulated the students for successful completion of their degrees and exhorted them to work towards greater application of information technology and scientific techniques in the field of agriculture. “With 40% of India’s population comprising of skilled youth between 18 and 35 years of age, India’s future looks bright as these young men and women shoulder the responsibility of change agents for the country”, he elaborated. Dr Kumar also shared that ever since the world became a global market, there is no dearth of opportunities in various fields and the youth need to be pro active in making best use of these.
While referring to Punjab as globally renowned for its agricultural contributions, he applauded the agricultural scientists of the state for creating a niche for themselves in the world. He also discussed the challenges facing agriculture especially nutritional security, agricultural diversity and deterioration of natural resources.
Earlier, Dr S.S. Kukal, Dean, College of Agriculture, PAU shed light on various activities undertaken by the college. Chairman of the College Teaching Committee, Dr R.K. Garg informed that 240 students from agriculture, bio technology, fashion technology had received degrees from the Chief Guest at the convocation. Gold medals were given to Gurbir Singh and Ramandeep Kaur, students of Agriculture( Hons.) , Nitika Gambhir and Sahil Jain, students of Biotechnology( Hons) programme, Anjal Mehta and Rajan Sharma , students of Food Technology( Hons) programme. Sukhdyal Nizavan Gold Medal was won by Gurpreet Singh and Deeksha Goyal, Ram Dhan Singh Medal was bagged by Karanjot Singh Gill and Kumari Balpreet Kaur Dhatt, S.S. Labh Singh medal won by Gurbir Singh and Ramandeep Kaur, Jagdish Chand Thakur medal won by Manjot Kaur and Daljit Singh and Jiwan Singh Sidhu medal was bagged by Ramandeep Kaur and Harshal.
Dr S.S. Kukal, Dean, College of Agriculture and Dr. P.K. Chhuneja, Head, Department of Entomology were decorated with Dr Gurdev Singh Khush award during the event.
