AGRI VARSITY HOLDS THREE DAY INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP

The department of Plant Pathology, PAU, in collaboration with the International Society of Plant Pathology (INSOPP) organized a three-day international Workshop on Simulation Modelling in Agricultural Research from 13-15th November, 2017. The objective of the training was to provide participants with concepts of forecasting disease epidemics and yield losses. Eminent scientists, Drs Serge Savary, Vice President of the International Society of Plant Pathology and Laetitia Willocquet from INRA, Research Centre of Toulouse, France conducted the workshop. Dr P.S. Sekhon, Head, Department of Plant Pathology, apprised that 40 scientists from various national and international institutes including Philippines, Tunisia and Afganistan participated in this workshop.
He also informed that this prestigious event focussed on scientific deliberations on the development, use, and limits of simulation models in the field of agricultural research, especially plant pathology. The training included theoretical as well as hands-on experience for participants, based on simulation modelling software STELLA. Dr Narinder Singh, Secretary, INSOPP honoured the visiting scientists. Dr N.S. Bains, Director of Research, PAU, chaired the inaugural session while Dr Neelam Grewal, Dean PGS, PAU, distributed the certificates to the participants. Dr P.P.S. Pannu, ADR and Dr D.S. Brar, Former Head, IRRI, Philppines, also participated in the workshop deliberations and congratulated the participants.
