DC WARNS EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS OF STRICT ACTION FOR DENIAL OF POST MATRIC SCHOLARSHIP TO SC STUDENTS

ASKS EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS TO REFRAIN FROM DISCRIMINATION AND ALIENATION OF SC STUDENTS

Terming that Right to Education was constitutional right of Schedule Caste students, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that strict action would be taken against Educational institutions denying benefits to students under Post Matric Scholarship scheme.

Chairing a meeting with the representatives of educational institutes to review implementation of the post matric scholarship scheme here today, the Deputy Commissioner said post matric scholarship scheme was a right of the SC students and not any sort of charity. He said that the education institutions must refrain from bullying down the SC students. Mr. Sharma said that the basic aim of the scheme was to ensure the well being of the SC students by facilitating them to avail quality education.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that the colleges must not take this scheme lightly, as it was a flagship program for uplifting the students of SC Community. He categorically asked the educational institutions to ensure that all the SC students were able to pursue their courses smoothly and in hassle free manner. Mr. Sharma said that the educational institutions should not run away from their social obligation. He said that any sort of discrimination or alienation of SC students was unwarranted and undesirable.

The Deputy Commissioner further directed the District Welfare Officer to collect the forms of all the students who were not able to fill the forms of scholarship scheme online. Mr. Sharma said that the forms should be submitted by the college authorities and Welfare department at Chandigarh office of the welfare department by hand for protecting rights of SC students. He said that all out efforts need to made to ensure that students get the benefit of this scheme.

Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr Jasbir Singh, District Welfare Officer Mr Lakhwinder Singh and Tehsil Welfare Officer Ms Sarabjeet Kaur.
