Probe tree felling in Mangar Bani: Kiran
Chandigarh,
Kiran Choudhry today demanded an inquiry into the felling of 500 trees on two acres in the protected Mangar Bani area of the NCR to expose those responsible and make them face the law.
In a statement, she asked Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to find out at whose behest permission had been granted to fell these trees in the Aravallis in disregard of National Green Tribunal orders.
The Congress Legislature Party leader urged the state government to stop wanton destruction of the forest cover, which had been shrinking by the day.
“In February 2016, Mangar Bani was demarcated as a 67-acre forest with a buffer zone of 500 metres. How has land protected under Sections 4 and 5 of the Punjab Land Preservation Act been cleared of trees using bulldozers in three hours?” she asked.
