After conquering the silver screen with his inimitable style , Tamil superstar Rajinikanth has now decided to make a foray into the corridors of politics.

He has announced his entry into the electoral politics and the announcement itself has sent his fans into frenzy , who have gone all out to welcome their superstar with thunderous claps and loud cheers.

The unison of politics and tinsel town is not new in Tamil Nadu. Many highly successful Tamil actors have been part of active politics for decades. Rajnikanth has announced that he will float a new party soon which will fight all the seats in the next state assembly elections.

The announcement sent his fans into a self influenced trance of joy and delirium.

Other political outfits have been carefully chosing the words to react to the event which will surely have a big bearing on their political fortunes in days and years ahead.

Rajnikanth is not the first cinestar to join Tamil politics. In fact he adds on to an already long list of yesteryear actors who have touched the zenith in politics too. The ever charismatic superstar of the 70s , MG Ramachandran or MGR as he was fondly called, had joined DMK. His closest rival and former CM Karunanidhi too had worked as a screenplay writer before tasting success in politics. Karunanidhi wrote screeplays for numerous films. After the demise of DMK founder CN Annadurai in 1969, he picked up the party and the state’s twines as he assumed office as CM just two years before this , Annadurai had led his party to victory against Congrerss.

Owing to serious political differences with Karunanidhi , MGR parted ways and floated his own party AIADMK. Till her demise in December 2016, Jayalalitha continued to be the tallest leader of the party becoming the CM of the state thrice. However, love and affection of fans did not always spell success.

In th epolitical arena for some cinestars, MGR’s contemporory Shivaji Ganesan met a fate of abyss after he floated his own party in 1988. His newly formed party suffered a severe defeat in the following state assembly elections. Another prominent cinestar who met the same fate was Vijaykant who created his own political outfit, DMDK, before the assembly elections in 2006. In 2011, DMDK and Jyalalitha’s AIADMK fought the assembly elections together.

The assembly election in the state are scheduled for 2021 but in 2019 lok sabha elections will take place..Rajnikanth would be targeting to fill the void left in the state politics by jayalalitha’s demise and ageing Karunanidhi.
