Finance and Revenue Minister Capt Abhimanyu today said that the BJP government had always stood with farmers and taken decisions for their welfare.

He was addressing a delegation of farmers from Kurukshetra, which called on him here to express gratitude for the launch of the Bhavantar Bharpai scheme.

The minister said the government always cares for farmers. It had given financial assistance of about Rs 3,000 crore to farmers to compensate them for crop loss due to natural calamities. He said now the government has launched the Bhavantar Bharpai scheme for the benefit of farmers, especially vegetable growers.

“The main objective of the scheme is to make cultivation of vegetables risk-free. Under the scheme, the government will give compensation if a farmer’s crop is sold at a price lower than the fixed minimum price. A protection amount of Rs 400 per quintal has been fixed for tomato and potato and Rs 500 per quintal for onion and cauliflower. The scheme will directly benefit farmers and also encourage them to adopt crop diversification,” he said.

Farmer leader Gurdial Singh Kadami said the decision has gladdened farmers. The scheme would ensure income to farmers and they would not fear bearing losses due to sale of crops.
