PAU organizes field day on training and pruning of deciduous fruit plants
LUDHIANA,
The Department of Fruit Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a field day on “Training and Pruning of Deciduous Fruit Plants” in the village Fir Virah, district Amritsar. The programme was
held in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Amritsar. Fruit science experts namely Dr P.P.S. Gill, Senior Horticulturist; Dr Navprem Singh, Associate Professor of Horticulture; and Dr Mandeep Singh Gill,
Assistant Horticulturist; gave practical demonstrations on training and pruning techniques in deciduous fruit plants.
Dr Gursharan Singh Chinna, Deputy Director Horticulture, Amritsar, along with the officers of the State Department of Horticulture, discussed the cultivation and management of pear, peach and plum crops.
Besides, subject-matter specialists of KVK Amritsar deliberated on feasibility of inter-crops and importance of soil sampling in the orchards. The experts also shared their views regarding importance of
canopy management in deciduous fruit plants for the production of quality fruits.
