SCIENTISTS AWARDED AT PUNJAB SCIENCE CONGRESS

Several awards were presented to the scientists on the concluding day of the 21st Punjab Science Congress, held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) under the auspices of Punjab Academy of Sciences, Patiala. Dr A.S. Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), who was the chief guest, congratulated the award winning scientists. Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU; Dr IJS Bansal, President of the Academy; Dr G.K. Sangha, Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, PAU, and Convener of the Organizing Committee, and Dr Shammi Kapoor, Organizing Secretary, were present on the occasion.
Five Young Scientist Awards were presented to Jasvir Singh Gill, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, PAU; Oshin Dhillon, Department of Zoology, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra; Amanpreet Kaur, Department of Physics, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar; Sameer S. Katiyar, Centre for Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology, Department of Pharmaceutics, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Mohali; and Narendra K. Chandla, Department of Food Engineering and Technology, Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal, in five different sections. Each award carried a cash prize of Rs 7,500 along with a medal and certificate. Five poster awards were also presented to G. Grover, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, PAU; M.A. Bhat, Department of Botanical and Environmental Science, GNDU; Akansha Gururani, Department of Environmental Sciences, G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar; Swatantra K. Singh, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, GADVASU; and Viruja Ummar, Department of Processing and Food Engineering, PAU, in five poster sections. Each award carried a cash prize of Rs 2,100 along with a medal and certificate. In addition, one consolation prize was awarded in each poster section. Dr Jupinder Kaur, Department of Microbiology, PAU, was awarded for the Punjab session.
