SRS Group chairman, four associates held for cheating

The police have arrested Anil Jindal, chairman of the SRS Group, and four of his associates for duping people to the tune of hundreds of crores.

The accused Anil Jindal, Nanakchand Tayal, Bisan Bansal, Devendra Adhana, and Vinod Garg, alias Vinod Mama were arrested from a hotel in Delhi’s Mahipalpur area on Wednesday night.

The police had registered 22 cases against them at the Sector-31 police station here on March 4 under Sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 120B of the IPC, and Section 3 of the Haryana Protection of Interest of Depositors Act for duping people on the pretext of giving them flats and monthly interest.

“Apart from the 22 cases, the Economic Offence Wing is also investigating another 100 complaints,” said Vikram Kapoor, DCP, Headquarters.

He said the exact amount of money involved in the cheating would be ascertained after a thorough investigation.

In addition, the Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate would also be roped in to assist in investigation into all cases and complaints, he said, and added that the police had also appealed to all affected persons to provide evidence regarding their investment.

Seeking attachment of the property of the accused, Congress leader Vikas Chaudhary alleged that nearly 1 lakh persons, who had invested hundreds of crores in this group, had been cheated.

According to the group’s website, company has diversified business portfolios comprising gold and jewellery, cinemas, retail, hospitality, healthcare and financial services.
