PM Modi holds talks with Nepalese PM Oli to deepen bilateral ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister KP Oli held bilateral talks covering ties in all areas, especially in developmental cooperation, trade & investment, agriculture, energy, connectivity & people-to-people contacts. This is KP Oli’s first visit to India and his first overseas visit after taking charge as Prime Minister.

The two leaders also jointly inaugurated the Integrated Check Post at Birgunj, after which it was handed over to Nepal. Amongst other projects, India is assisting Nepal in developing 3 other such ICPs. They also initiated the groundbreaking ceremony for Motihari Amlekhganj petroleum products pipeline.

“We will continue to support Nepal as per that country’s priorities. We agreed to expedite implementation of all connectivity projects,” PM Narendra Modi said after talks with Nepal PM K P Oli.

The two nations also agreed on new railway line to link Kathmandu with India.

The Nepalese Prime Minister stressed on the importance of friendship between India and Nepal. “I have come to India to explore ways to enhance cooperation to newer heights,” said Nepal PM.

Earlier, the visiting Prime Minister was accorded ceremonial reception at the forecourts of the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

In his welcome message, President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted, “No other countries in the world have the bonds of friendship and cooperation that exist between India and Nepal. Regular exchanges of visits at the highest political level demonstrate the priority that we attach to our special partnership.”

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli too spelt out the commitment of his government to partner with India to ensure ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ for both the people of Nepal and India.
