Video calling for Karnal jail inmates
Karnal,
In their efforts to ramp up facilities for prisoners, the Karnal jail on Tuesday started the inmate video calling system . With this, prisoners can talk to their family members and relatives via video-conferencing.
Inmates will get 10 minutes twice a week to speak to their relatives via the IVCS. Inmates will have to bear the cost of the call.
Earlier, the inmates used the telephone facility to talk to their family members and relatives.
Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki, who launched the system, appreciated the efforts of the Karnal jail authorities for the development of inmates. “I am happy with the facilities for the inmates. The Karnal jail is one of the best in the state,” he said.
Jail Superintendent Sher Singh said the inmates would have to register two mobile numbers and, after verification, inmates could use the video call facility.
“The Karnal jail has become the first in the state to introduce the IVCS. In two months, all jails in the state will be equipped with the video call facility,” he added.
The facility will save time and money of families and also reduce the number of visitors to the jail.
