Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has clarified the situation regarding an alleged cash crunch in the country. He tweeted the currency situation in the country has been reviewed and that currency is available more than the required.

However, in some areas unusual, suddenly the use of cash has resulted in a currency problem, which is temporary and would be resolved soon.

Even Minister of State for Finance, Shiv Pratap Shukla, said the government has formed a committee to address the problem of currency shortage in certain states and the issue would be resolved in next 2-3 days.

Finance Ministry has said that there was “unusually high demand” for currency in the last couple of months and this unusual spurt has been witnessed more in some parts of the country like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.

According to Finance Ministry, at present, there is a reserve of Rs. 1.75 lakh crore. There is a capability to print 25 million new notes every day, which can be extended and any demand can be met.

The government is taking every possible step to ensure that supply of cash remains constant at ATMs.
