The Central University of Haryana here suspended 13 students on Thursday for 30 days on the charge of hindering academic and administrative functioning.

Sources said the order was issued after protesting BTech students and some others gheraoed Vice-Chancellor Ramesh Chand Kuhad and other administration officials on the campus on Thursday morning and raised slogans.

The university authorities claimed the protesters misbehaved with the VC, but the students refuted the charge. The protesters accused security personnel of misbehaving with girl students on Wednesday night.

As per the orders issued by the proctor, 11 of the suspended were BTech students and two had joined the MA course.

“The VC had a lengthy meeting with the protesting students on Wednesday evening to discuss the issue. After the meeting, the students seemed satisfied. We hoped that they would end their agitation, but they did not do so. They called hostel inmates to join them and created ruckus at night,” said registrar Ramdutt.

The students alleged that security personnel removed their posters from the dharna site on Wednesday night on the direction of the university authorities.
