India’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), Lt Gen Anil Chauhan, on Friday told his Pakistani counterpart, Major General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, that the Indian Army will continue to take retaliatory measures along the Line of Control (LoC) to prevent Pakistan from firing and abetting infiltration of terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir.

The Indian DGMO said the “onus of de-escalation along the LoC rests with Pakistan Army provided it stops supporting terrorists and puts an end to unprovoked ceasefire violations to abet infiltration”.

The two countries had agreed to a ceasefire along the LoC in November 2003.

Lt Gen Chauhan had an unscheduled interaction over the telephonic hotline around 6:30 pm on Friday evening. Pakistan had requested for the talk. The hotline is between South Block New Delhi and the Pakistan Army headquarters at Rawalpindi. It is used once in week. Today’s talks were not the routine weekly talk.

Pakistan DGMO alleged that Indian security forces had resorted to unprovoked firing and had escalated the calibre of weapons (means used heavier weapons) to fire along the LoC, the 749-km boundary between the two countries which splits the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
