A Malian immigrant who scaled a building to rescue a 4-year-old child dangling from a Paris balcony is to receive French citizenship.

The 22-year-old Mamoudou Gassama received widespread praise for his act of heroism after a video of his feat went viral on social media.

It was a miracle rescue in Northern Paris on Saturday evening. In just 30 seconds, France got its own friendly neighbourhood Spiderman. As images of 22-year-old Mamoudou Gassama clambouring up four floors to rescue a 4-year old went viral on social media, it earned him an invitation to visit Elysee Palace to meet French President Emannuel Macron who gave him a medal for his bravery and rewarded him with French citizenship.

Paris Fire Brigade is reported to have offered Gassama a job.

The rescued child’s father, on the other hand, had gone shopping while leaving the child home alone has been arrested.
