Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah will call on Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray at the latter’s residence on Wednesday evening, Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut told reporters here.

Raut, editor of party mouthpiece Saamna, said Shah had sought an appointment with the Shiv Sena chief.

“Everyone is welcome at Matoshree. There is no hidden agenda from the Shiv Sena’s end for this meeting,” Raut said.

Leaders of the BJP and the Sena said, Thackeray would meet Shah at Matoshree, the Thackerays’ residence, at 6 pm on Wednesday. Shah had sought an appointment with the Shiv Sena leader as part of the BJP’s ongoing outreach programme to improve ties with its allies, BJP leaders said. They added that Shah was scheduled to meet Akali Dal leaders Prakash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir on Thursday.

On Sunday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had requested the top leadership of the BJP to help reach out to the Thackerays. Fadnavis admitted to reporters that both the BJP and the Shiv Sena would find the going tough in the 2019 Lok Sabha and assembly elections if they were to contest alone.

After the BJP won the by-election to the Palghar Lok Sabha seat by the defeating the Shiv Sena candidate, Thackeray had called the national party its main enemy that needed to be defeated.
