38 Jharkhand pilgrims injured in bus accident in Phagwara
Phagwara, September 4
Thirty-eight pilgrims, including 20 women and four children, were injured as their tourist bus rammed into a stationary bus here in the wee hours of Monday. All pilgrims belonged to Bhagalpur in Jharkhand.The police said the pilgrims were going to Haridwar after offering prayers at Vaishno Devi in Jammu and Kashmir. Bus driver Gaund Das and conductor Janardhan Yadav suffered fractures, according to Senior Medical Officer Davinder Singh of the local civil hospital. Yadav was referred to a Jalandhar hospital as his condition was said to be critical.Director Health Services Dr Rajiv Bhalla rushed to the civil hospital.One of the injured pilgrims, Shiv Jogy, said they were all asleep when the accident occurred.SDM Jyoti Bala visited the Civil Hospital to meet the injured. She assured free medical treatment to them. She also deputed naib tehsildar Swapandeep Kaur to arrange refreshments for them.SP Parminder Singh Bhandal rushed to the spot and made arrangements to send the injured to the civil hospital. He said two people of the stationary Punbus bus, including its conductor, also suffered minor injuries.
