Saina Nehwal enters QFs of World Championships in China
Saina Nehwal progressed to the quarterfinals of the World Championships for the eighth successive edition after upsetting fourth-seed Ratchanok Intanon 21-16, 21-19 win in the third round in Nanjing, China on Thursday.
She will face Olympic champion Marin in the quarterfinals after the Spaniard registered a straightforward 21-7, 21-13 win against Japan’s Sayaka Sato.
However, Kidambi Srikanth’s tournament came to an end after he lost 18-21, 18-21 to unseeded Malaysian Daren Liew.
Earlier, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa became just the second Indian mixed doubles pair after V Diju and Jwala Gutta to reach the quarterfinals of the World Championships after defeating the seventh-seeded Malaysian pairing of Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jemie Lai in the third round.
