Ropar,
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to provide jobs to one member each of the families of 34 Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) workers from Nurpur Bedi who had died in a train accident in 1982 during the Dharam Yudh Morcha. This was stated by SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar here today.
Badungar, who was here to attend a function organised in memory of the SAD workers at a gurdwara near Nurpur Bedi, said financial help would be provided to the family members of 17 others who had been injured in the accident.
Badungar also announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh to raise a memorial to the 34 martyrs. Local MP Prem Singh Chandumajra gave a grant of Rs 10 lakh to the Kalwan village panchayat for the purpose.
On the controversy regarding not making an amendment in the SGPC records on revocation of the pardon granted to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Badungar said it would be done after an approval from the General House in November.
