Vijay Mallya’s “fugitive economic offender” verdict on January 5

A special court today adjourned its order on an application filed by the Enforcement Directorate seeking declaration of fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya as a “fugitive economic offender” and confiscation of his properties.The order has been adjourned till January 5, as the Special PMLA judge is not ready with his order.

The Enforcement Directorate had filed an application before the special Prevention of Money Laundering Act Court requesting it that Mallya be declared a fugitive under the Fugitive Economic Offenders’ Act, 2018.Under the provisions of the Act, once a person is declared a “fugitive economic offender”, the prosecuting agency has the powers to confiscate his properties.
