Anil Kumble got India-Australia Test series result eerily spot on
Former Indian leg-spinner and coach Anil Kumble turned soothsayer after correctly predicting the outcome of the India vs Australia Test series even before the contest began. In an interview with Cricketnext, Kumble was asked to make his prediction. Not only was Kumble correct with a 2-1 scoreline but also gave an insight on how bad weather and rain could play a role in the series which would see a draw as it emerged in Sydney. Just as he predicted, the fourth Test ended in a draw as rain played spoilsport on the last two days and allowed India to seal the victory by a 2-1 margin.
Kumble had also said that this was India’s biggest chance to beat Australia in their own den. “I think whether Australia has a full playing XI or not, the potential that the current team has certainly makes this their best opportunity to win a series in Australia. They missed out in South Africa and England but this is a great opportunity to beat Australia in Australia,” said Kumble.
India clinched a win on Australian soil after 71 years. History was made in which the chief architects were middle-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara and speedster Jasprit Bumrah. Pujara scored 521 runs and Bumrah picked up 21 wickets in the series.
Skipper Virat Kohli spoke at the post-match presentation and said, “I’ve never been more proud of a team than this one. The culture we’ve been able to build over the last 12 months. Our transition started here when I became the captain for the first time.”
