Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Geelani on Sunday alleged that the “brutality” and the “trigger happy armed forces” had converted Kashmir from a “paradise on earth into a hell”.

Geelani, who issued a statement in response to Governor Satya Pal Malik’s Republic Day speech on Saturday, in which he said Kashmir would again become paradise, said “our healthy and clean environment has been polluted by the filthy and suffocating fumes of bullets, pellets and other ammunition”.

“Our peaceful and happy habitat has been blown up and converted into rubble by occupation forces.” He said New Delhi had “deceitfully and cunningly forced its Army” into the Kashmir valley.
