Kieron Pollard fined for showing dissent at Umpire’s decision

After a brisk start, Mumbai Indians lost their way in the middle overs as the Chennai Super Kings bowlers applied a real squeeze. However, Kieron Pollard was in the middle and was looking settled.

On a pitch which was not too conducive for stroke-making, Mumbai were looking at one final flourish from Pollard. Dwayne Bravo had the ball in his hand and the first three deliveries were wide, but Pollard had shuffled across and hence, the umpire did not call it. This did not go down too well with the big West Indian threw his bat in the air in disgust.

However, after the match, Pollard was fined was fined 25% of his match fee for showing dissent at the Umpire’s decision. He admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding

He then took a guard well outside the off stump on the tram lines as Bravo jogged in to bowl. However, he kept moving away and let go off his strike as the bowler had to abort his run-up. This prompted the umpires to have a quick chat with him. The final two balls of the over were dispatched for two boundaries as Mumbai ended with 149.

“Of course, these sort are the games we need to perform in, these are the games that people remember, scoring runs first in the final is always good, the pressure is on the chasing team. Credit to these guys, Bumrah bowled a fine spell and then Lasith did the things he can do. In 2017, when we see back at that game we didn’t put many runs and it went to the final over, this season too we had some really close games.
